Bethesda’s Lockpicking in Starfield: Fun Minigame, Lackluster Rewards

superadmin

Bethesda has introduced a new lockpicking minigame in their upcoming game, Starfield. While the minigame itself is engaging and enjoyable, players are expressing disappointment with the rewards they receive upon successfully unlocking a Master-level lock.

One player shared their experience of spending over 30 minutes and using more than 40 Digipicks to crack a Master-level lock, only to be rewarded with underwhelming loot. The received items, such as a trauma pack, an Arc Welder, and some ammo, did not match the effort and skill required to solve the lock.

The Starfield community agrees that Master-level locks should offer guaranteed high-quality rewards, such as Legendary-grade gear or valuable contraband items. These items can be sold for a high price and help players build up their in-game currency.

Some players have resorted to backing out of the lockpicking minigame after opening the lock, in order to refresh the lock’s ring setup and potentially get a more favorable combination. This strategy allows them to save their Digipicks for locks with better rewards.

Despite the lackluster rewards, players appreciate the lockpicking minigame itself. They find it to be the best lockpicking minigame Bethesda has ever created, striking a balance between difficulty and engagement. It requires skill and provides an immersive experience.

While the rewards may not be satisfying, leveling up the lockpicking skill still holds value. There are other locks to pick in the game, such as doors leading to mission shortcuts, alternate routes, or special bonus rooms. These opportunities make investing in lockpicking worthwhile.

Although lockpicking may not be a top priority for all players, the potential to access alternate routes and bypass challenging missions is appealing. It adds an element of choice and exploration to the gameplay experience.

Ultimately, players will continue attempting to unlock chests and doors not solely for the loot, but because the lockpicking minigame itself is enjoyable and adds depth to the game.
