Blizzard Considers Revamping Silvermoon City for Future World of Warcraft Expansion

Xavier Ward

Blizzard Entertainment is known for repurposing old cities in its World of Warcraft expansions. With the announcement of the next three expansions at BlizzCon, players are speculating about what changes Blizzard might make to the game. One player on the WoW subreddit even created a mock map of a potential neutral city for the second expansion, Midnight.

In the upcoming Midnight expansion, players will return to the elven homeland of Quel’thalas. It is possible that Blizzard could update existing cities and structures in Quel’thalas for the new expansion. However, Silvermoon City has always been a Horde-only city since its introduction in 2007. If it were to be reintroduced as a neutral capital, the Alliance would need their own section of the city or the Horde leadership would have to accept their enemies.

The mockup created by a Reddit user named Oliver21417 shows a red side and a blue side of the city, representing the Horde and Alliance factions respectively. The proposed floor plan suggests that the Horde side would remain intact, while the Alliance would occupy the west side of the city known as the “Ruins of Silvermoon.” This area is familiar to players as a questing hub from the Blood Elf starting experience.

Some players in the comments expressed concerns about the idea of a divided Silvermoon City, stating that it would only reinforce the faction divide and not promote true neutrality. They argued that the Blood Elves would not willingly give half their city to the Alliance.

A revamp of Silvermoon City would be beneficial for the game, as it is a rich lore environment that has not been fully explored. An updated version of the city would likely allow players to use flying mounts in the zone, as flying was previously excluded from Eversong Woods and Silvermoon City.

The Midnight expansion is still a few years away, giving Blizzard ample time to develop a potential Elven city.
