Call of Duty Community Suspects Increase in AI-Controlled Combatants in Modern Warfare 3 Matches

Derek Morgan

The Call of Duty community is convinced that there has been a rise in the number of AI-controlled combatants infiltrating their Modern Warfare 3 matches. Players have reported encountering suspicious bots in their public games, which are allegedly replacing live opponents and leading to one-sided victories for certain players. While it’s not always easy to determine whether an opponent is AI or human, players have noticed unusual movement and poor aim as clear signs of a bot in their MW3 matches. Some players have also mistaken their less skilled teammates for bots, but they are indeed real players.

Players claim that there are now more bots than ever before. However, there are also claims from the other side that there are AI opponents in CoD lobbies that even MW3 professionals would find challenging. These opponents exhibit behaviors such as locking onto players’ heads but missing every shot. This has led to speculation that there are bots of varying difficulties present in multiplayer matches, rather than just mindless combatants.

Bots have been a part of the Call of Duty franchise for years, particularly in newer modes like Warzone and DMZ. However, these bots have typically been limited to offline playlists and not encountered in online multiplayer. Offline games allow players to adjust the difficulty level and enjoy a more relaxed experience. The unexpected presence of computer-controlled enemies “in every lobby” and across different skill levels has caught players off guard.

This issue is not unique to Call of Duty, as players have also reported encountering bots in games like PUBG, Battlefield 2042, and even Fortnite. In Fortnite, players have requested that Epic Games reduce the number of bots in online matches due to the influx of players since the game’s recent release.

Activision, the publisher of Call of Duty, has not officially addressed the addition of bots in online matches. Players may have to wait for the next community Q&A session for more information. Dot Esports has reached out to Activision for comment. It is important to note that there has been no confirmation of bots in Call of Duty lobbies at this time.
