Cheaters Dodging Ban Hammer, Innocent Players Getting VAC Banned for High DPI

superadmin

Valve’s anti-cheat system is mistakenly banning innocent CS2 players who have switched to high DPI settings in matches. The system is misinterpreting the fast mouse movements as spin-botting, a cheat used in CS:GO. This has led to wrongful VAC bans for many players, causing frustration within the community.

One player conducted an experiment and replicated the bug on a new Steam account. By setting their mouse to high DPI and hitting a teammate in Casual mode, they triggered an automatic VAC ban. Numerous players have reported similar incidents on Reddit and Steam’s forum.

This issue follows Valve’s previous false VAC bans related to an anti-lag feature on AMD graphic cards, which also affected the Premier rating of players’ friends. Additionally, players were banned for playing CS2 on Windows 7 for unknown reasons.

If Valve does not address this flaw in its CS2 anti-cheat system, the problem could escalate. Many players have been changing their DPI to high values during warm-ups or between rounds, a practice that was previously unpunished in CS:GO.

The player base is frustrated with CS2’s anti-cheat system, as it continues to produce false positives while allowing cheats to thrive in CS2 Premier. This was meant to retain players and discourage them from resorting to third-party matchmaking services like FACEIT.

Although this situation is a disaster, it is likely that Valve will eventually reverse the VAC bans triggered by high DPI settings. The developer has already reversed bans for players using Windows 7 and is actively unbanning those affected by AMD graphic card settings.
