Ninjas in Pyjamas’ Counter-Strike pro, Kristian “k0nfig” Wienecke, expressed his frustration on October 12, stating that CS2 Premier is infested with cheaters, dampening his enthusiasm for the new game mode. This sentiment is shared by many in the community.
Personally, I have encountered two highly suspicious players in the ten Premier games I’ve played. These players fit the description provided by k0nfig: new accounts with low hours played in CS:GO/CS2, yet they possessed an uncanny ability to predict our team’s movements and execute perfect timings. While not blatant spinbotters, it was evident that they were likely using wallhacks, as their aim and movement did not match their exceptional game sense.
Premier is the mode that CS:GO players have been longing for over the past 11 years. It offers a competitive environment with a pick-and-ban phase, visible ratings, and clear indications of how much Elo you stand to gain or lose based on the outcome. It’s akin to playing on platforms like FACEIT, but historically, FACEIT has been more successful than Valve in keeping cheaters at bay.
Despite CS2’s promising start, the prevalence of cheaters in Premier matches has increased since the game’s global release. Many players are now contemplating a shift to third-party platforms like FACEIT. Josiah “JoJo” Jimenez, one of the highest-rated Premier players worldwide, recently voiced concerns that if Valve does not restore Elo points when cheaters are banned, the Premier grind may become unviable.
While VAC Live, a new anti-cheating tool for CS2, is currently operational, it is not comprehensive enough to detect all types of cheats during live matches. Valve’s approach to combating cheaters appears to mirror their strategy in CS:GO, where bans are issued in waves after popular cheating software is detected.
If Valve does not adopt a more intrusive anti-cheat system capable of effectively keeping cheaters away from Premier and other official modes, it is likely that players will abandon the official servers and return to third-party platforms. This would render Premier obsolete.
