Wizards of the Coast recently unveiled a special addition to Magic: The Gathering called Chimil, the Inner Sun. This Legendary Artifact, revealed during Lost Caverns of Ixalan spoilers, has the ability to Discover and prevents opponents from countering your spells. With the introduction of the Discover mechanic in the LCI set, Chimil, the Inner Sun is expected to have an impact on various MTG formats.
Casting Cost | Type | Rarity | Passive Ability | Triggered Ability |
---|---|---|---|---|
Six (mana of any color) | Legendary Artifact | Mythic Rare | “Spells you control can’t be countered.” | “At the beginning of your end step, Discover five.” |
Chimil, the Inner Sun allows players to Discover five cards at the beginning of their end step, providing them with the opportunity to cast a spell they find for free. This mechanic, combined with the card’s ability to prevent opponents from countering your spells, makes it a valuable addition to any deck.
However, there are some drawbacks to consider. The high casting cost of six mana may make it less viable in formats like Standard Constructed. Additionally, while Chimil, the Inner Sun protects your spells from being countered, it does not offer the same protection for itself.
Despite these limitations, Chimil, the Inner Sun is expected to find a place in Commander decks. Its potential as a combo piece with cards like Up the Beanstalk makes it a valuable addition to Ramp-type builds. In Limited formats, Chimil, the Inner Sun has the potential to be a game-changing bomb.
Players will have the opportunity to test out Chimil, the Inner Sun when Lost Caverns of Ixalan releases in local game stores on November 10th and on MTG Arena on November 14th.
