Players Discuss the Impact of Life Path Choice in Cyberpunk 2077
In Cyberpunk 2077, players have the option to select one of three backgrounds for their character: Corpo, Street Kid, or Nomad. These life paths influence the game’s prologue, provide additional dialogue choices, and shape the overall playthrough. However, for many players, this decision holds much greater significance.
Recently, with the release of the 2.0 update and Phantom Liberty DLC, players on Reddit have reignited the conversation about their life path choice. Dedicated fans emphasize that their decision depends on the desired story arc and playstyle they envision for the game.
The Corpo life path revolves around embodying a corporate scumbag in Night City, prioritizing money and power above all else. Initially, it involves a mindset of “if you can’t buy something, take it by intimidation or force.” However, some players note that their character eventually experiences an “open your eyes moment,” leading to a softer approach.
On the other hand, the Street Kid playthrough follows a more straightforward plot, starting as a thief striving to make it big, similar to David from Edgerunners. Lastly, the Nomad life path often positions the character as the hero of the story. Fans describe themselves as “merciful, but cruel to those who deserve it,” although a few players opt for a completely villainous route.
It is fascinating to observe how players even tailor their weapons and cyberware to align with their chosen life path. Corpo characters tend to focus on tech builds with smart guns and netrunning, Street Kid players favor knives, blades, and Sandevistans, while Nomads rely on brute force with heavy weapons.
As a recent player of Cyberpunk, I chose the Corpo life path, which appears to be one of the most popular choices. Initially, I contemplated selecting Nomad due to their emphasis on honesty and integrity within clans. However, I quickly realized that survival in Night City would require me to play the part of a Corpo.
Starting as a Corpo, my intention was to gain insight into the inner workings of Night City, understanding who holds power and how they operate. Consequently, my playstyle naturally leaned towards a Corpo approach. I predominantly rely on offensive quickhacks, the best firearms available, and confront any obstacles head-on.
While I wouldn’t classify my character as evil, their love for Jackie adds a layer of complexity. This is the beauty of Cyberpunk; players can create their own unique story, regardless of whether it leans towards heroism or villainy.
