Diablo 4 players are struggling to understand the damage changes introduced in Season Two. The complexity of the numbers and terms has left them scratching their heads and unsure about how it will affect their builds and gameplay strategies.
To help clarify the situation, one player attempted to explain the changes on October 11. They simplified it by stating that critical hits will always deal one and a half times the base damage, while damage to vulnerable enemies will always deal 1.2 times the base damage. These numbers cannot be increased, resulting in an overall reduction in damage.
The intention behind this change is to prevent players from solely focusing on stacking Critical Damage and Vulnerability Damage, which was the most effective way to increase damage in Season One. The new damage system in Season Two will no longer allow players to increase these stats.
However, effects such as Critical Chance and Vulnerability Effects are still valuable but situational. The author of the explanation thread suggests that if your build allows for consistent crowd control of enemies, it is better to prioritize stats like “damage to crowd-controlled enemies” as it will provide more consistent damage due to the reliability of your debuffs.
Blizzard, the game’s developer, is aware of the impact of these changes and has announced that adjustments will be made to the monsters in the game. This means their health will likely be modified to align with the new damage system when the October patch is released.
Some players found the explanation difficult to comprehend, with some even jokingly suggesting that a Ph.D. in Statistics would be needed to understand it. However, others quickly corrected this misconception, noting that the terms “additive” and “multiplicative” are related to algebra rather than statistics.
While the changes may be challenging to grasp for some players, having a good understanding of the game’s mechanics and math could greatly benefit players in Diablo 4 Season Two.
