A mod for Baldur’s Gate 3 that briefly appeared on Nexus Mods on Oct. 1 has faced heavy criticism from players for its racist nature. The mod altered the skin color of black characters to white, claiming to enhance aesthetics. However, players quickly labeled it as racist and offensive.
A concerned Reddit user, Doc_Swood, alerted the community about the mod through a now-deleted post on the BG3 subreddit. They shared screenshots revealing the actual changes made by the mod when installed.
Fortunately, the mod seems to have been removed from the Nexus Mods site, thanks in part to the attention brought to it by Doc_Swood’s post. Players expressed gratitude for their vigilance and emphasized the importance of shunning such individuals from society.
Regrettably, it appears that the mod creator has also developed similar mods for other games. Doc_Swood’s screenshots displayed three other mods for Fallout 4, Doom II, and Marvel’s Spider-Man Remastered, all featuring racist and fascist symbols, including swastikas reminiscent of 1930s Germany.
It is crucial to report such mods promptly when encountered. Once again, Doc_Swood deserves recognition for their efforts. However, as some players pointed out, it remains challenging to completely eradicate such individuals from online games and communities.
