A persistent bug from Counter-Strike: Global Offensive has made its way into Counter-Strike 2, causing a reduction in knife damage. During a Premier ranked match, a player discovered the issue after switching from their gun to their knife. Previously, a light slash with the knife would slightly decrease its damage, resulting in frustrating 97-in-three knife battles. In CS2, however, the bug is even worse, as the damage reduction occurs immediately upon switching to the knife.
A video posted on social media on October 30th demonstrates the problem. When a player switches to their knife and left-clicks during the withdrawal animation, the knife’s damage per swing is reduced, leading to the same 97-in-three bug. To avoid this issue, players must wait a few seconds before attacking with their knife to ensure maximum damage.
This knife bug was well-known in the Counter-Strike community for years, but Valve either ignored it or chose not to fix it. Now, it seems that the bug has carried over to CS2, albeit with a slight twist. Players are speculating whether this is actually a bug or an intentional feature of the game. If it is indeed intentional, players will have to adapt to this new mechanic.
CS2 has been plagued by various bugs, including HE grenades reacting incorrectly to volumetric smokes and an inventory issue causing players’ skins to disappear. However, Valve has been responsive to player feedback and has released 11 patches in October alone to address these issues. It remains to be seen whether Valve considers the knife bug a priority for fixing in the next patch, as it can significantly impact the outcome of ranked matches.
