The highly anticipated CS2 beta has left professional players skeptical about its readiness for competitive play. During the ESL Pro League in Malta, players discussed their experiences with the beta and highlighted various gameplay and technical issues. While some praised certain aspects of the game, others expressed concerns that need to be addressed before its official launch.
Virtus Pro’s n0rb3r7 was particularly critical of the beta, stating that it is not yet ready for competitive play. He pointed out issues with character movement, delayed grenade detonation, and smoke blooming as some of the worst elements that need fixing before the game can be considered tournament-ready.
Another player, woxic, echoed n0rb3r7’s sentiment about movement in CS2, comparing it unfavorably to the smoother movement in CS:GO. He described the movement in CS2 as feeling like “carrying a 200kg bag on your back.”
Smokes in CS2 also received criticism from woxic. In CS:GO, once a smoke blooms and blocks sight lines, it remains in place until it clears a few moments later. However, in CS2, woxic noted that smokes continue to spread in odd shapes after being thrown, leading to inconsistencies in coverage.
NAF from Team Liquid highlighted issues with spraying in CS2, stating that it felt similar to spraying in VALORANT, where spray patterns are not consistent. He acknowledged that tapping and bursting rifles felt solid, but spraying needed improvement.
On a positive note, Complexity’s floppy expressed his appreciation for Valve’s decision to change the length of competitive matches. He preferred the MR12 format, as he felt that extra rounds in MR15 were often unnecessary. He also enjoyed the additional break between scrimmages, as 30 rounds of practice could sometimes become too long.
While there were mixed reviews from the pro players, it is clear that CS2 will require some adjustment and refinement. Valve will likely continue to update the game and address major issues, but time is running out if they want to meet the supposed launch date. However, given the current state of the beta, it remains uncertain whether the launch will proceed as planned.
Overall, the feedback from professional players highlights the need for further improvements and adjustments in CS2 before it can be considered fully ready for competitive play.
