CS2 players who were wrongly VAC banned due to an AMD GPU driver update are now facing consequences, even though they did nothing wrong. Valve’s policy of penalizing associates of cheaters is being applied to friends of those who were falsely banned, resulting in significant ranking point losses in Premier mode.
Valve had warned players on the day CS2 was released that associates of cheaters would lose ranking points in Premier mode as a deterrent. However, this measure is now affecting innocent players who were banned due to the AMD GPU update on October 12.
A player who was VAC banned due to their GPU wrote on Reddit that all their friends lost 10,000 Elo in CS2 Premier, even those who primarily play solo. One friend, who had 14,000 points, is now left with only 3,000 points.
The affected player expressed their disappointment with Valve’s handling of the situation and mentioned that their entire party is considering moving to FACEIT, a third-party platform, as a result.
Many CS2 players have been unfairly banned due to the AMD driver issue, which Valve took some time to address by advising players not to use AMD’s anti-lag feature. These players should not be held responsible for a feature of their graphics card that interferes with CS2’s anti-cheat system.
This problem is exacerbated by Valve’s reputation for not taking strong action against actual cheaters in CS2. Numerous players, including professionals, have complained about encountering cheaters in Premier mode, which is meant to provide a cheat-free experience on official servers.
While Valve has promised to reverse the wrongful VAC bans caused by AMD’s driver, it remains uncertain whether the players who lost Elo due to this issue will have their Premier points restored.
