CS2 Takes the Lead as CS:GO’s Final Hours Approach

Xavier Ward

As CS:GO’s end draws near, CS2’s match count surpasses it. The Source 2 update has seen a surge in matches completed over the past two weeks, overshadowing CS:GO’s ranked game counts.

Currently, 58% of all official CS:GO and CS2 matches lean towards the Source 2 update, according to CSGOstats.gg. CS:GO’s ranked matches make up 37%, with another 5% going towards Wingman lobbies.

These statistics likely reflect the number of players without beta access or those enjoying CS:GO’s final days before the complete transition to CS2, or perhaps both. It seems that some players are not ready to bid farewell to CS:GO just yet.

Valve has been gradually distributing beta invites, with multiple waves allowing a significant portion of the CS:GO population to make the leap to CS2.

Over a week ago, more than one million players achieved over 10 wins in the limited beta’s Premier matchmaking. In the coming days, the rest of the community is expected to finally receive beta access.

Within three weeks since its launch, over 1,000,000 players have already participated in the Beta season of Premier mode in Counter-Strike 2, meaning they have won at least 10 matches. The distribution by regions is as follows: Europe – 71.1%, North America – 10.81%, and others.

Valve has dropped hints indicating something big is coming this Wednesday, such as Twitch name changes, tweets, and tweaks to their Twitter banner. Speculation suggests that the full release of CS2 may be imminent.

There are even reports that Valve is pushing for CS2 to make its debut in the professional scene as early as this week. Tournament organizers ESL have allegedly asked players if they would be willing to use CS2 instead of CS:GO during the final stages of Pro League Season 18.

The community is uncertain whether CS2 will be used in the semifinals and grand finals of the ESL Pro League, but if it does, it would be unprecedented.

Table: CS:GO and CS2 Match Distribution

Match Type Percentage
CS2 Matches 58%
CS:GO Ranked Matches 37%
Wingman Lobbies 5%
