Valve has released an update for Counter-Strike 2 (CS2) that aims to enhance the matchmaking system and provide players with a more competitive experience. The update, implemented on October 10th, eliminates the Premier setting that prioritized shorter queue times over balanced skill levels. Instead, players can now expect longer queue times but will be matched with opponents of similar skill levels.
The previous Premier setting allowed for quick matchmaking by disregarding player Ratings. However, this often resulted in unfair matchups, with players losing their hard-earned Ratings when pitted against opponents significantly higher on the leaderboard. Valve recognized the need for a more curated queue and made it a top priority based on community feedback.
Similar issues were observed in the final months of CS:GO, where short queue times led to frustrating experiences for high-ranked players who were matched against lower-ranked opponents. With the CS2 update, Valve aims to rectify this problem and ensure that players are matched with others in or around their own skill bracket.
In addition to addressing matchmaking concerns, Valve also made changes to Premier’s promotion and relegation matches. Previously, these matches occurred at every 1,000 Rating points. Now, they will only take place at color boundaries, which are set at every 5,000 Rating points. This adjustment streamlines the ranking system and adds more significance to these crucial matches.
To further improve the calibration process for new Premier players, Valve has increased the potential Rating gain or loss in each match. This adjustment allows players to reach their actual rank more quickly and accurately.
Overall, the CS2 update brings significant improvements to the Premier and Ranked modes, addressing the frustrations caused by the previous matchmaking system. While queue times may be longer, players can now look forward to fairer and more competitive matches.
