Destiny 2 players believe that Bungie’s recent layoffs, which were driven by revenue problems, can be attributed to a number of factors. These include overpriced DLCs, repetitive content, a poor new player experience, and a disregard for the game’s core pillars.
Since October 30th, Bungie has laid off nearly eight percent of its employees due to revenue falling 45 percent below projections. Fans of Destiny 2 are not surprised by this, as they have been disappointed with the latest expansion, Lightfall, and the lackluster State of the Game updates. Additionally, the player base has been shrinking.
One major issue is that Destiny 2 is difficult for new players to get into, and even seasoned fans find the newer content to be repetitive and tedious. The high price of the latest DLCs, which can cost as much as a full-release game, adds to the frustration. Players question why they should buy expansions that offer the same content as previous DLC drops.
In addition to these monetization problems, players feel that Destiny 2 has lost sight of its core pillars and has become too focused on hardcore players, neglecting casual fans. Many players just want to enjoy the game casually, completing quick missions and quests without the need for intense grinding. They believe that Bungie should have catered to both casual and hardcore players instead of favoring one group over the other.
Bungie’s failure to address these issues and listen to player feedback is seen as a major downfall. Fans believe that the company should have taken into account the frustrations and desires of the player base in order to improve the game and increase revenue.
