Destiny 2 players who enjoy using the Osteo Striga poison build will be disappointed to learn that the powerful SMG is getting a significant nerf in the upcoming season. Bungie, the game’s developer, has decided to remove the SMG damage bonus scalar that was affecting poison damage, bringing it more in line with another exotic weapon, the Warlock’s Necrotic Grip.
According to Bungie, the Osteo Striga has been deemed “far too powerful” due to its ease of use and effectiveness in clearing out enemies in PvE. The SMG has exceptional range, doesn’t require kills to activate its AoE effect, and doesn’t rely heavily on precision aiming. These factors have made it one of the strongest add-clear weapons in the game.
The issue with the Osteo Striga lies not only in its power but also in the damage scalar that SMGs receive in PvE content. This scalar, which is one of the highest among all weapon types, has pushed the poison damage to extreme levels, making it difficult for other weapons to compete in the add-clear role. While the nerf may not drastically change the Osteo Striga’s performance, it will bring it closer to the power level of other add-clear weapons.
In addition to the Osteo Striga, Bungie is making sweeping changes to glaives, a hybrid melee and projectile weapon. The projectile speed of glaives will be increased by 30%, and their damage in PvE will receive a 25% boost. However, their damage in PvP will be decreased to maintain balance.
Bungie’s goal with these changes is to enhance the overall feel and usability of glaives as both melee and projectile weapons. They also aim to increase the uptime of the shield without making it overpowered. As part of these adjustments, the glaive shield energy will now recharge passively, and the delay after firing before being able to melee will be reduced from 0.75 seconds to 0.2 seconds.
