Destiny 2’s Young Ahamkara’s Spine Exotic to Receive Heavy Nerfs in Mid-Season Patch

Xavier Ward

Destiny 2 players will soon face significant changes to the Young Ahamkara’s Spine exotic armor piece. In the upcoming mid-season patch, Bungie plans to heavily nerf this Hunter-specific item, aiming to bring its power more in line with other Solar ability-focused exotics. While this adjustment will primarily affect PvP gameplay, it will also impact PvE activities, potentially weakening high-level raid builds.

The specific changes to Young Ahamkara’s Spine include reducing the Tripmine Grenade’s bonus health from 100 to 70 and removing the bonus 50 percent damage resistance. Additionally, grenade energy will now be provided on ability kills rather than damage with abilities. These alterations aim to address the excessive power of Hunters utilizing Tripmines repeatedly in PvP scenarios. However, many players argue that these nerfs will disproportionately impact PvE gameplay, making the exotic less effective in challenging raids.

Unlike other Solar ability-focused exotics such as Athrys’s Embrace and Caliban’s Hand, Young Ahamkara’s Spine lacks alternative means of regaining ability energy. This puts it at a disadvantage, particularly in master-level raids where enemies may not always be defeated by grenades alone. Some players feel that Bungie should have separated the nerfs for PvP and PvE, as the exotic is enjoyable to use in PvE without disrupting the overall meta.

In terms of PvP, Young Ahamkara’s Spine will undoubtedly become weaker, but skilled players should still be able to utilize it effectively by strategically employing their grenades. Many players agree that a PvP nerf was necessary, as the current state of the exotic can lead to unbalanced matches. However, it remains unclear why Bungie did not implement separate nerfs for PvP and PvE, as they have done in the past. Balancing equipment solely for PvP can diminish the feeling of being a powerful Guardian in PvE activities.

This is not the first time that Destiny 2 PvP nerfs have negatively impacted PvE gameplay, but it is certainly one of the most concerning instances. The true impact of these changes will become apparent when the mid-season patch goes live, expectedly on October 10th. However, many players remain skeptical about the outcome and are not optimistic about the potential consequences for PvE gameplay.
