Developer Promises Fixes and Updates for Lords of the Fallen

Derek Morgan

The highly anticipated Soulslike game, Lords of the Fallen, faced a rocky start with numerous glitches and performance issues. However, developer Hexworks has been transparent about their efforts to improve the game and address player concerns.

In a recent Q&A session on Twitch, the developer addressed community questions regarding the state of the game and their plans for future updates. Performance improvements and bug fixes are the developer’s immediate priorities, aiming to resolve issues such as stuttering, frame drops, and crashes that have frustrated players, particularly on PC and Xbox Series S.

While the developer acknowledged the desire for crossplay functionality, they explained that fixing other pressing issues, especially those faced by Steam players, takes precedence. Crossplay compatibility issues with Steam and Unreal Engine 5 resulted in unplayable lag during the brief period when crossplay was enabled. However, the developer assured players that crossplay will be reenabled in the future, without specifying a timeframe.

Another significant concern raised by players is the lack of item storage. Unlike other games in the Souls genre, Lords of the Fallen does not provide a storage chest for players to manage their inventory. In response to this feedback, the developer confirmed that item storage is a planned feature and will be implemented soon.

Many players also inquired about potential gameplay changes, particularly regarding enemy density and the removal of Vestiges (similar to Dark Souls’ bonfires) in New Game Plus and beyond. While these are common complaints within the community, the developer stated that they do not intend to make alterations to enemy density or restore Vestiges in New Game Plus. They believe that players should approach enemy encounters strategically and utilize the tools and hidden pathways available to them.

Additionally, the developer announced upcoming adjustments to reduce Wither damage from parrying, making it a viable defensive option for agility builds. They also revealed that while players have discovered all the hidden bosses, there are still secrets left to uncover in Lords of the Fallen.

Overall, Hexworks is committed to addressing player concerns and improving the game’s performance. With plans for bug fixes, performance optimizations, crossplay reenablement, item storage implementation, and adjustments to enhance gameplay mechanics, players can look forward to a more enjoyable experience in Lords of the Fallen.
