The Decline of Diablo 4: Twitch Streaming Stats Reveal Shocking Reality
The downfall of Blizzard’s highly anticipated game, Diablo 4, has become a spectacle to behold. This week, players have put it into perspective by examining Twitch streaming statistics. The results are shocking: fewer people are streaming Diablo 4 today than the ill-fated Dota 2 card game, Artifact.
Dota players wasted no time celebrating Diablo 4’s perceived demise, despite active player counts indicating otherwise. A Reddit thread on September 11 discussed the Twitch viewership statistics, revealing that Diablo 4 had only 546 viewers, trailing behind Artifact.
To make matters worse, most of Artifact’s “streamers” aren’t even playing the game. They are streaming other games, movies, and TV shows under the Artifact title, using it as a safe haven for various activities.
Artifact, Valve’s Dota 2 card-game spinoff released in 2018, aimed to capture the growing audience of digital card games. However, it failed to gain traction and ultimately met its demise in 2021, with only 80 concurrent players launching the game today according to Steam Charts.
In comparison, Diablo 4 boasts a reported player base of over 300,000 according to ActivePlayer.io. This proves that while streaming numbers matter, they do not accurately determine whether a game is “alive or dead.”
Nevertheless, the decline of Diablo 4 is remarkable, especially after the Season of the Malignant’s launch in July. Players have been increasingly dissatisfied with the game’s economy and its stale and uninspired endgame. This dissatisfaction has led to a significant decrease in player engagement, especially with the release of new games like Baldur’s Gate 3 and Starfield.
While Diablo 4 is far from being a truly dead game like Artifact, many fans are hoping that Blizzard addresses their complaints before the launch of Diablo’s season two in mid-October. In the meantime, it’s important not to let Twitch streaming statistics overshadow your enjoyment of the game.
