Players of Modern Warfare 2019 are convinced that Activision deliberately ruined the game in order to promote the release of Modern Warfare 3. They point to various issues such as an abundance of cheaters in Search and Destroy lobbies and the removal of Warzone from the game. Redditors believe these decisions were part of a planned obsolescence strategy to kill MW19.
According to a Reddit post by TheFlairGun, Warzone was removed from the game, leaving players unable to find matches. Despite this, the file size for Modern Warfare remained at a hefty 120GB, which players deemed lazy on Activision’s part. Another Redditor suggested that the lack of new patch notes since February 2020 and the September 2023 update, which introduced hackers, bugs, and loading issues, were intentional moves to drive players towards MW3.
Some loyal MW19 players expressed their unwillingness to switch to MW3, citing their loyalty to the current game. They sympathized with MW19 players who have to endure daily encounters with cheaters in modes like Search and Destroy, Hardpoint, and Domination. The effectiveness of Ricochet’s anti-cheat system in MW19 was also questioned.
However, these changes and frustrations are not new to the Call of Duty franchise. It seems to be a recurring pattern with each new release. PapaGroot21 advised those who want a hacker-free experience to either pay full price for the new CoD game or accept the current situation.
While the servers for MW19 are still operational, it is clear that the game’s fate is sealed. Activision aims to push its loyal player base away from the comfort of MW19 and towards the upcoming Modern Warfare 3, in order to maximize profits.
