Disappointing News for Shiny Hunters in Pokémon Scarlet and Violet DLC

superadmin

Shiny hunters in Pokémon Scarlet and Violet’s The Teal Mask DLC may be in for a disappointment. A recent datamine of the game’s version 2.0.1 update reveals that all static encounters in the DLC are Shiny-locked, including Gift Pokémon. This means that players will not be able to find Shiny variants of certain Pokémon, even if they meet specific requirements.

The list of Shiny-locked Pokémon includes Ogerpon, Okidogi, Munkidori, Fezandipiti, and the new Bloodmoon Ursaluna. Additionally, the static encounters with Milotic and Ariados are also Shiny-locked.

New Static Encounters Shiny Locked
Okidogi Yes
Munkidori Yes
Fezandipiti Yes
All forms of Ogerpon Yes
Milotic Yes
Ariados Yes
Bloodmoon Ursaluna Yes

Gift Pokémon, such as the Hisuian Growlithe and Sinnoh Starters, are also Shiny-locked. However, there is one exception to this rule. According to the files, players can receive a Shiny Munchlax as a gift in the DLC, which will always be Shiny and have a Crafty Mark.

New Gift Encounters Shiny Locked
Shiny Munchlax (with Crafty Mark) No
Hisuian Growlithe Yes
Sinnoh starters Yes

This means that players will not be able to obtain Ogerpon, Okidogi, Munkidori, Fezandipiti, and Bloodmoon Ursaluna as Shiny Pokémon in the DLC. However, they can still obtain other Pokémon and their Shinies through alternative methods.

If players want a Shiny Sinnoh Starter or Hisuian Growlithe, they will need to catch one in another game like Legends: Arceus and transfer it over through Pokémon HOME. Alternatively, they can try breeding these Pokémon to increase their chances of hatching a Shiny.

While the static encounters are Shiny-locked, players can still Shiny hunt for wild Spinarak, Ariados, and Feebas in the SV DLC. These Pokémon appear throughout the map outside of the static encounters. However, it should be noted that Milotic is a rare spawn and Feebas is particularly difficult to find.
