Dota TV, the popular feature that allowed fans to watch competitive matches within the game client, experienced significant lag and freezing during the first two days of The International 2023. This made the games unwatchable and also prevented Dota 2 players from casting their prediction votes. Valve quickly addressed the issue with a hotfix before the tournament’s second phase.
The lag in Dota TV not only affected the viewing experience but also resulted in fans being unable to earn prediction points during TI 2023’s Road to The International. To compensate for this, Valve released a fix and granted players the maximum amount of points they could have earned from successful predictions.
Despite the inconvenience caused by the bug, Valve decided to double all prediction point rewards for the entirety of TI 2023. This was a welcome move considering the unpredictable nature of the tournament, which saw multiple upsets right from the start.
The 2023 Dota 2 Compendium, however, lacked in terms of skins and interactive events. The focus of the content and features revolved mainly around the competitive aspects of the game, with the prediction system being the most exciting one. Unfortunately, with the bug affecting predictions, fans who had purchased the Compendium were understandably disappointed.
With the doubling of prediction point rewards, TI 2023 now enters its second phase to determine the teams that will secure upper bracket slots. The upcoming matchups are high-stakes and making accurate predictions has become even more challenging. The double rewards should greatly incentivize fans to engage in the prediction system.
Following the matches today and tomorrow, TI 2023 will go on a break and return for its main event stage on October 20th.
