Players of the popular game Starfield have expressed frustration with the ineffectiveness of electromagnetic (EM) weapons when it comes to incapacitating targets. Despite their resemblance to Tasers, these weapons fail to subdue certain characters who are immune to EM damage.
One player encountered this issue while attempting a side quest on Paradiso, where they were tasked with removing an unruly hotel guest without causing harm. The EM Novablast Disruptor, designed for non-lethal use, proved completely ineffective against this character’s immunity to EM damage.
This problem extends beyond this particular quest. In the Freestar Rangers questline, players are required to interrogate enemy officers, but these characters also prove immune to EM damage. This immunity seems to be tied to the fact that NPCs with post-fight dialogue or events are protected from this type of damage.
As a result, players are forced to resort to lethal weapons and reduce the target’s health to zero in order to subdue them and initiate dialogue. This contradicts the intention of using non-lethal EM weapons and renders them essentially useless.
Players hope that future updates of Starfield will address this issue promptly, allowing electromagnetic weapons to effectively incapacitate targets in a non-lethal manner, as intended.
