English Broadcast for China’s League of Legends Pro League Cancelled for 2024 Season

Xavier Ward

China’s League of Legends Pro League (LPL) will not have an English broadcast for the upcoming 2024 season, leaving English-speaking fans in the dark. The decision was revealed by former caster Christopher “MonteCristo” Mykles, who expressed disappointment that one of the best leagues in the world would be less accessible.

According to MonteCristo, the existing production has been cancelled and Riot Games has not yet provided an alternative broadcast. There are no plans to continue the official LPL English broadcast next year. It is uncertain whether Riot’s Stryker facility in Dublin will take over coverage remotely, but time is running out before the Mid-Season Invitational.

MonteCristo, who previously provided English coverage for the LCK, understands the importance of an English broadcast for Eastern League regions. He hopes that a solution can be found, acknowledging that the situation is challenging for everyone involved, including Riot HQ.

Freelance color caster Alex “Nymaera” Hapgood, who worked on the LPL English broadcast team this year, expressed shock at the announcement. They mentioned that the workload during the LPL Summer Split was intense but were satisfied with the broadcast. They hope to continue showcasing their effort and passion in some form next year.

The news has disappointed fans and players, especially as it comes on the day of the Worlds Championship finals. Losing English coverage for one of the top leagues in the world would be devastating for the scene and its community. This announcement adds to the disappointment of rumors suggesting downsizing of the LCS for next year’s season.

It is crucial to find a resolution for LPL fans before the Spring Split begins in early 2024. The community hopes that a solution can be reached to ensure continued access to the league’s matches and content.
