ESIC Commissioner Ian Smith has revealed that coaches who abused the controversial coach bug will soon face additional bans. Smith confirmed that there are new findings in the coach bug scandal that will result in further penalties. While the coaches have not been banned yet, they will be in the near future.
During an interview on INSITE’s In the Crosshair podcast, Smith explained that there are coaches in the competitive CS:GO scene who will be banned by ESIC. These coaches are described as active employees, mainly from tier-three and above. Smith emphasized that there are only a few individuals who will face bans.
ESIC has identified four different instances of using the coach bug, and bans will be issued for what is considered “cheating.” This includes coaches moving around during the bug and using the gained information to gain a competitive advantage.
While the banned coaches will have the opportunity to appeal, Smith believes that their chances of success are slim due to the evidence gathered by ESIC. However, no specific details were provided regarding when the bans will be announced or which coaches will be affected.
The conversation also touched on ESIC’s actions regarding the match-fixing scandal in CS:GO that came to light in August 2021. Smith acknowledged that there were promises of updates on investigations involving 34 individuals, but due to limited resources, ESIC has been unable to take legal action against those involved.
