Don’t bother with micromanaging your health while venturing through the galaxy. In Starfield, getting sick or injured is not as big of a deal as it should be, and many players are simply accepting the consequences of being “chronically sick.”
One would assume that falling ill or experiencing a life-threatening injury in outer space would be disastrous or, at the very least, hinder one’s ability to continue exploring the galaxies. However, in Starfield, not only do you have instant cures for every imaginable problem, but most of the time, they aren’t even worth using.
A discussion on the Starfield subreddit revolves around the game’s afflictions and how they hold little significance for players. It’s not uncommon to see characters running around with severe burns, dislocated limbs, and lacerations without it significantly impacting their gameplay.
One player described their condition as having “broken, dislocated everything, torn everything else, and horrific burns from walking in a mysterious liquid.” Another frustrated player expressed their opinion, saying, “You fail a jump, break a leg, pass near gas from terrain, and gain a pulmonary disease. Sometimes it feels like I don’t even have a suit on.”
Acquiring afflictions and injuries in Starfield is quite easy, especially while exploring planets and moons. Jumping from high ledges or using a jetpack might result in a dislocated limb, engaging in combat with bugs could cause profuse bleeding, and exposure to toxic chemicals on alien planets may lead to a nasty cough. However, none of these ailments pose a significant issue, as characters remain relatively strong even while afflicted. Only when oxygen supply or health bars are affected should action be taken.
If you notice that your health bar is permanently reduced to a minimum and a yellow status bar has replaced it, it might be time to seek medical attention. Until then, the afflictions you acquire in Starfield are not worth worrying about. The easiest way to get rid of these afflictions is by taking a dose of Panacea, a medication that eliminates any afflictions, injuries, or diseases your character may be experiencing.
Some players in the comments mentioned that they only use medicine items when their maximum carry weight starts to be affected by their injuries. “Gamers will run around burdened with useless items but won’t use one of the dozen med injectors they have to cure themselves,” another player remarked.
For those exploring the stars, we recommend using injectors or Panacea after accumulating around four or five afflictions. Constantly applying quick fixes from the Aid menu is not advisable, as you are likely to acquire another injury or illness soon after. All in all, micromanaging your health in Starfield is not worth the effort.
