Fans of the upcoming Ubisoft FPS XDefiant were excited when a glitch on Ubisoft Connect seemingly revealed the game’s official release date. However, it turned out to be nothing more than a false rumor.
A screenshot of the Ubisoft window displaying a supposed release date of Sunday, Oct. 1 was shared on Twitter by an XDefiant creator. Although the date was related to a public test session and not the main game, many speculated that Ubisoft had accidentally leaked the launch date. Ubisoft quickly clarified that it was a typo and had “nothing to do with the game.”
Ubisoft assured fans that they are eager to release XDefiant and will provide ample notice once it’s ready. However, this revelation was disappointing for those hoping for a release after months of limited information about the game’s development.
Ubisoft executive producer Mark Rubin expressed his regret for not meeting the summer 2023 release window they had initially set. He explained that the team was ambitious in their expectations and that XDefiant is currently in the final submission phase, addressing the remaining major issues.
While a summer release would have been ideal, Ubisoft will now be launching XDefiant amidst strong competition. Valve’s CS2 test beta is reportedly just days away, and Call of Duty’s Modern Warfare 3 (2023) is scheduled for release on Nov. 10. With numerous releases in recent months and more to come in October, XDefiant may face challenges in gaining attention. Further delays could also lead to a loss of interest from the impatient playerbase.
Despite these challenges, Ubisoft hopes to keep gamers engaged with a six-hour test run on Sept. 28. This will provide a taste of the game and hopefully satisfy players until the official launch.
