The loot box system, which allows players to spend real money on packs containing random players, has long been a point of contention in FIFA games. Critics argue that it encourages gambling and creates an unfair advantage for those willing to spend more.
Instead of addressing these concerns, EA Sports has taken the pack system to a whole new level in FIFA FC 24. Packs like the “Elite Season Opener” are priced at a staggering 3,000 FC points, equivalent to around $30. This is nearly half the price of the full game itself.
These expensive packs are not a rare occurrence, with several packs in the Ultimate Team store costing between 1,000 and 3,000 FC points. Fans are frustrated by this trend, as it seems to suggest that buying packs is the only way to obtain top players, diminishing the influence of the Transfer Market.
One example is the “Elite Season Opener Pack,” which offers 45 Rare Gold players rated 80 or higher. However, all of these players are untradable, meaning they cannot be sold or traded with other players. The pack also includes several “Loan” players who can only be used for a limited number of games.
Furthermore, the Store is now regularly flooded with promo packs, a departure from the past when they were reserved for special events. Packs like the “Premium Gold Players Pack” and “Prime Gold Players Pack” are now available daily, raising concerns that more expensive packs could be introduced in the future.
These developments have led fans to question EA Sports’ priorities, with many feeling that profit margins are taking precedence over player satisfaction. The pay-to-win mechanics in FIFA FC 24 have sparked a heated debate about the fairness and integrity of the game.
