FaZe Clan Wins Thunderpick World Championship, Roster Uncertain

Derek Morgan

FaZe Clan emerged victorious in the Thunderpick World Championship on November 5, defeating Virtus.Pro in a thrilling grand finals match. However, this may be one of the last times we see this roster together as rumors of a breakup circulate.

The grand finals saw FaZe Clan secure a 2-0 victory over Virtus.Pro, winning on Ancient with a score of 13-10 and clinching a nail-biting overtime win on Vertigo with a score of 19-17. Ropz was the standout player of the finals, delivering an exceptional performance with 52 kills, 35 deaths, and an impressive 1.49 HLTV rating. His contributions were particularly crucial on Vertigo, where he achieved 35 kills and only 20 deaths.

Prior to their championship win, FaZe Clan defeated MOUZ and Cloud9 in the quarterfinals and semifinals, respectively, both with 2-1 scorelines, securing their spot in the grand finals.

While the victory is undoubtedly a source of joy for FaZe Clan fans, it’s important to note that the tournament took place online. Additionally, the rumored roster breakup adds uncertainty to the team’s future.

In early October, Gamesquare, the parent company of Complexity, announced its intention to acquire FaZe Clan, including its Counter-Strike team. However, Valve’s rules prohibit having two teams under one organization, potentially leading to the dissolution of one or both teams once the merger is finalized. Interestingly, FaZe Clan defeated Complexity at IEM Sydney just before the acquisition announcement, further adding to the complexity of the situation.

Furthermore, there are reports suggesting that Russell “Twistzz” Val Dulken, a member of the FaZe Clan roster, will be joining Team Liquid. Twistzz is a highly accomplished player, being one of only six North American Counter-Strike players to win a Major and the only player with two IEM Grand Slams, achieved during his previous tenure with Liquid. Regardless of the outcome, it seems unlikely that this iteration of the FaZe Clan roster will remain intact beyond this year.
