FlyQuest Announces Roster Changes: VicLa and Ssong Depart

superadmin

FlyQuest bids farewell to mid-laner Lee “VicLa” Dae-kwang and coach Kim “Ssong” Sang-soo as they announce a roster shuffle. After two splits in the LCS, the Korean duo will be leaving the team in the off-season following a disappointing end to 2023. While it is unclear who FlyQuest will bring in as replacements, they have plenty of time before the 2024 LCS spring split begins.

The organization expressed their gratitude to VicLa and Ssong for their dedication and passion. Both players joined FlyQuest from Korea at the end of 2022, with VicLa previously playing for KT Rolster and Ssong coaching DRX to the 2022 Worlds Championship. Many had high hopes for the imports in the LCS, but unfortunately, their performance fell short.

During the regular split, FlyQuest had a strong start with a 14-4 record, placing them at the top of the ladder. However, they were unable to secure a spot at the Mid-Season Invitational, losing to Golden Guardians. Despite this setback, VicLa made an immediate impact and was recognized with a spot on the LCS Third All-Pro Team in his first split.

However, FlyQuest’s success was short-lived. The team struggled in the summer split, starting with a 0-6 record. VicLa’s performance declined, recording the worst KDA among all starting mid-laners in the split. In an attempt to turn things around, FlyQuest benched VicLa and promoted academy player Djalal “Spirax” Djiar. Although VicLa returned to the team after one match, the damage had already been done.

FlyQuest finished the split with a 6-12 record, narrowly missing out on a playoff spot. Given the team’s decline between the spring and summer splits, changes were expected to be made. While VicLa’s time in the LCS may be over for now, the 19-year-old mid-laner still has a promising career ahead of him and may return to compete in Korea if he doesn’t find a new home in the LCS.

FlyQuest is the second LCS team to announce roster changes after failing to make the playoffs, with Immortals dropping mid-laner Onur “Bolulu” Demirol earlier. Other LCS teams are likely to make changes as well, but many are waiting until after Worlds in Korea.
