G2, a highly skilled CS:GO team, has been facing difficulties in recent competitions despite their high world ranking. Although they won the IEM Cologne title in June, they have encountered setbacks along the way.
At ESL Pro League on September 24, G2 faced a rebuilt Complexity roster featuring North American legend Jonathan “EliGE” Jablonowski. Complexity dominated G2 on Anubis with a score of 16-8 and seemed poised to win Inferno and the series with a 2-0 victory. However, G2 managed to turn the tide and ultimately won the series 2-1, although not without some frustration from their star player, Nikola “NiKo” Kovač.
During the match, Complexity executed a classic B-site take, bringing the scoreline to 14-10 and putting G2 on the verge of match point. Inferno is known for being challenging to retake once the B site is breached, making it crucial for G2 to hold their ground. In his frustration, NiKo ripped something off the back of his chair, possibly the team logo.
The following round proved even more frustrating for G2 as Ricky “floppy” Kemery held off three opponents, putting Complexity on match point. Fortunately, G2 rallied and won five consecutive rounds, pushing the map to overtime and eventually securing the victory on Inferno and in the series.
Playing on the CT side of Inferno can be incredibly frustrating when losing the B site. It is notoriously difficult to retake, and a successful B execute is crucial to perform well on this map. Despite NiKo’s momentary anger, he still achieved the highest number of kills in the lobby throughout the three maps and led in HLTV’s advanced statistics.
