The Ghost perk in Warzone has always been a powerful tool, allowing players to hide from UAVs, heartbeat sensors, and portable radars. However, developers have struggled to find the right balance for this perk, as they don’t want it to become too dominant. In an effort to achieve the perfect balance, Modern Warfare 3 will introduce a new approach to the Ghost perk.
In the past, Ghost would keep players off the mini-map at all times. But in the upcoming Warzone map, the perk will only work while players are moving. This change is based on lessons learned from CoD Vanguard and aims to prevent players from using Ghost to camp or stay hidden in one spot.
Previously, during Season Two Reloaded of the Caldera era, Raven Software made changes to the Ghost perk, limiting its effect to only when players were moving. This was done to address the issue of players using foliage as cover on the Caldera map. However, when Warzone 2 launched, the developers decided to revert Ghost back to its original functionality of hiding players while stationary or moving.
In July 2023, during MW2 Season Four Reloaded, a different approach was taken to counter Ghost. If a player used a UAV and had Birdseye equipped, the enemy’s location would be revealed, regardless of whether they were using Ghost or not. Now, with the release of Modern Warfare 3, the developers are once again changing their strategy to deal with Ghost.
Community members have praised the rework announcement, particularly those who dislike campers. However, some players remain skeptical, expressing concerns about potential bugs and inconsistencies with the perk. They suggest that there should be a delay before Ghost deactivates when a player stops moving.
We will have to wait until the new Warzone map goes live on December 6th to see how this rework of the Ghost perk plays out in-game.
