Fans have noticed that a hilarious animation error in the original Half-Life game has finally been fixed in the 25th anniversary update, released on November 20. This bug fix, although long overdue, is a welcome improvement as it rectifies a scene that unintentionally provided amusement instead of terror when the game was first launched in 1998.
The comical mishap occurred during the Blast Pit level, where a scientist is struck into a wall by a massive alien tentacle before being dragged away. However, due to a synchronization issue, the tentacle would retract before the scientist moved, resulting in the scientist appearing to float through the air. This unintentional flying motion, with the scientist flapping his arms and legs in panic, created a more amusing spectacle than a frightening one.
The anniversary update has now resolved this issue, as demonstrated by Twitter user Vinícius Medeiros. The tentacle now correctly seizes the scientist before pulling him away, restoring the intended effect of the scene. Although seemingly insignificant, fans are delighted to see this long-standing bug finally addressed, as evidenced by the positive responses.

It’s both cursed and satisfying to see it work as intended after all these years of it being broken.

Oh my god, they fixed it! I remember seeing the scene in the documentary and it was still bugged out. Lol.

This fix is just one of many changes introduced in the anniversary update. Valve explained in a Steam post on November 17 that it includes gameplay and UI alterations, updated graphics settings, and support for the Steam Deck, allowing players to enjoy Half-Life on the go. Additionally, new content has been added, such as four multiplayer maps and a documentary featuring the original development team. The affordability of the update, priced at less than a dollar until November 28, makes it even more enticing for fans.
