Grinding to Rank Four: Worth the Effort in Starfield

Derek Morgan

Leveling up to rank four in Starfield is always worth it, regardless of your skill level. The satisfaction of fully mastering a skill is hard to beat. It takes dedication and grinding, but the rewards are well worth the effort, especially when you focus on one particular skill.

In a recent discussion on the Starfield subreddit, players shared which skills they prioritized for reaching rank four. With so many options available, the answers varied widely.

The most popular choices among players were skills that offered convenience, such as Piloting, Security, and Weightlifting. These skills eliminated barriers and made gameplay smoother. For example, maxing out Weightlifting increased your character’s carrying capacity by 100 kilograms, making a significant difference in convenience.

Other players focused on essential RPG skills like weapon proficiency and maximum HP. The specific weapon skills varied depending on personal preference.

However, the Security skill, which relates to lockpicking, received mixed reviews. Some players felt it was unnecessary to max out this skill if they were already skilled at solving puzzles. While higher ranks in Security make lockpicking easier, it’s not essential if you can handle the minigame. Personally, I stopped leveling Security at rank two because the blue ring provided enough assistance, and I rarely encountered master-level locks that required additional points.

My approach to skill leveling in Starfield has been more situational. I allocate points to skills as needed, particularly in later stages of the game. If a mission requires Stealth, I invest in that skill. If progressing the Crimson Fleet storyline demands stronger shields for my ship, I prioritize leveling up that skill. This method has proven convenient and keeps me engaged, eagerly anticipating my next level-up and the challenges it unlocks.

What sets Starfield apart is the meaningful progression it offers. Each skill point allocation feels rewarding, as it unlocks new challenges and abilities. The fully realized version of each skill’s patch in the skill tree becomes a badge of honor, showcasing your dedication and hard work.
