Halo Infinite Season Five: Reckoning Introduces Major Changes to Battle Pass and Events

Tim Price

Halo Infinite season five, Reckoning, is set to be one of the game’s most significant content updates since its launch. The latest trailer reveals exciting additions such as Halo 4’s Extraction mode and the highly anticipated return of Firefight. However, there are also substantial changes happening behind the scenes.

In a recent blog post, Brian “ske7ch” Jarrard, the community director at 343 Industries, announced that both the Halo Infinite battle pass and event system would undergo significant reworks in season five. The battle pass will be reduced from 100 tiers to 50, streamlining the content rather than reducing it. This change allows for multiple content items to be included in a single tier, resulting in a tighter and more efficient battle pass. The aim is to provide players with more content while reducing the grind.

For the free-to-play players, the non-premium battle pass will also see changes. The first 20 tiers of the 50-tier battle pass will be completely free, allowing players to earn all the free rewards more quickly. However, this free battle pass will only be available for a limited time, expiring on Nov. 14.

While the battle pass changes are significant, the premium battle pass remains the same, costing 1,000 Credits and including 1,000 unlockable Credits. It will continue to be permanently available after purchase.

The event system, which has been familiar to players for years, will be replaced entirely by Operations. Operations are free activities that launch sporadically throughout the season and typically run for four to six weeks. Each Operation features a 20-tier reward track. Once an Operation ends, the reward track disappears. However, players now have the option to upgrade an active Operation for 500 Credits, granting them bonus XP, exclusive cosmetic content, and permanent access to that Operation. This allows players to grind out the available rewards at any time, even after the Operation has ended.

Operations are now completed through Match XP instead of challenge completions, making it easier for players to progress. Players can complete matches in any matchmaking playlist or custom game to make progress on an Operation.

For those who want to skip the grind entirely, there is a premium option available for 2,000 Credits that grants instant access to all 20 tiers of an Operation’s reward track. This option can also be purchased in the game’s store for Operations that have already ended.

Halo Infinite’s season five battle pass will launch on Tuesday, Oct. 17. The first Operation, Combined Arms, will begin on Nov. 14, followed by Winter Contingency III, which will run over the Christmas period starting on Dec. 19.
