Hexworks’ Patch Blunders: Frustration and Unfairness for Lords of the Fallen Players

superadmin

The community is in an uproar, and it’s not hard to see why. Hexworks, the developer behind Lords of the Fallen, has been releasing patch after patch in an attempt to fix the game. However, instead of improving things, each update seems to make them worse.

In their latest blunder, Hexworks has effectively cut the power of everyone’s boss weapons in half. These weapons, which could be upgraded up to +5 like in Dark Souls, were found to be overpowered in PvP, particularly Pieta’s Sword. In an effort to balance the game, Hexworks changed the upgrade curve so that boss weapons now need to be upgraded to +10 to reach the same level of power. Unfortunately, this meant that everyone’s existing boss weapons were downgraded to +5, significantly reducing their effectiveness.

The community is understandably frustrated. Players who have been playing the game after the 1.1.282 patch are now finding that their boss weapons are much weaker than before. Hexworks’ decision to balance the game in this way is a poor choice, as it goes against the first rule of gaming: never take power away from the players.

What’s even more disappointing is that players were not even refunded the Deralium Shards they had used to upgrade their weapons. While Hexworks did temporarily lower the cost of Deralium Shards from vendors, this does little to address the issue of players having their power unfairly taken away without warning.

For players in New Game Plus, the situation is even worse. They may struggle to obtain the resources needed to upgrade their weapons again, especially since Large Deralium Shards only become available late in the game. This could potentially leave players stuck in challenging areas with weak weapons, effectively soft-locking their characters. It’s an inexcusable and unforgivable game design decision, as one Redditor aptly put it.

Adding insult to injury, this PvP-focused change has had a negative impact on PvE players as well. Alongside the weapon adjustments, Hexworks also made changes to balance invasions, such as reducing the damage and ammo cost of explosive bolts, and increasing the mana cost for certain spells, including the beloved Infernal Hounds. This further exacerbates the frustration felt by the community.

If Hexworks truly wants to balance the game for PvP, they should consider implementing PvP-specific weapon scaling, similar to what is seen in Elden Ring. The Lords of the Fallen subreddit is filled with disgruntled players expressing their dissatisfaction with these changes. It would be wise for Hexworks to roll back these updates before community sentiment worsens any further.
