Hideki Kamiya Assures Bayonetta Series Will Continue Without Him

Tim Price

Bayonetta creator Hideki Kamiya has confirmed that the Bayonetta series will continue even though he is no longer involved. In a recent YouTube video, Kamiya mentioned that he does not own the intellectual property (IP) and therefore the series can be carried on by those who do. While this may disappoint fans who were hoping for Kamiya’s original vision for the future of Bayonetta, it is still good news that the series will live on.

Kamiya had always been heavily involved in the development of the Bayonetta games, having created the series and directed the first game. Although he took on a supervisory role for the sequels, he remained in charge of the story scenarios. With his departure from PlatinumGames, the direction of the series will likely be different from what Kamiya had planned. He had envisioned Bayonetta as a nine-part saga, but now he believes that he may have to keep his full vision to himself.

Despite this, it is highly likely that there will be more Bayonetta games in the future. The franchise is one of PlatinumGames’ most popular and successful, with Bayonetta herself becoming somewhat of a mascot for the studio. The strong sales of Bayonetta 3, which sold over one million units in its first two months, will undoubtedly encourage the creation of another game.

Since 2014, the Bayonetta series has been exclusive to Nintendo, with Bayonetta 2 being funded by the company. If Nintendo wants more Bayonetta, it is expected that PlatinumGames will oblige. However, it remains to be seen how the series will evolve without Kamiya’s direct involvement.

As for Kamiya’s future projects, he has not yet revealed any details. He was previously working on Project G.G., the final installment in his superhero game trilogy, which includes Viewtiful Joe and The Wonderful 101. It is unclear if development on this project will continue without him or if it has been canceled.
