Valve disabled the native demo recording feature in CS2, leaving players unable to rewatch their matches. However, there are some workarounds and alternatives available to keep your highlights and review your plays.
Manual Recording through Console Command
Although CS2 no longer automatically records matches, you can still record them manually using a command in the game’s developer console. Simply open the console when a match starts and type “record demoname”, replacing “demoname” with the desired name for the recording. To stop the recording, type “stop”. It is recommended to start recording after the warmup period to avoid any bugs.
Third-Party Software
If the console method doesn’t work for you, using third-party software is the best alternative. Programs like OBS, NVIDIA Shadowplay, or SteelSeries Moments can be used to record your CS2 matches. OBS is commonly used by Twitch streamers and YouTubers, while SteelSeries Moments automatically records multikills and headshots if the program is open during gameplay. Keep in mind that using third-party software may reduce your FPS, so consider your PC’s capabilities before using them.
These workarounds and alternatives will allow you to record your CS2 matches until Valve reinstates the automatic demo recording feature.
