Veteran League of Legends support Choi “huhi” Jae-hyun is set to leave Golden Guardians and join NRG for the upcoming LCS season in 2024. This move comes after huhi spent years switching between 100 Thieves and Golden Guardians, and it seems he may have finally found a new home after nearly a decade in the LCS.
The news of huhi’s transfer was first reported by League blog Sheep Esports on November 17. Despite a relatively successful regular season with Golden Guardians, finishing second in the LCS 2023 Spring Playoffs and fourth in the LCS Summer Split, the team fell short in the Worlds Qualifying Series 2023, losing 0-3 against Team BDS.
On the other hand, NRG had a somewhat disappointing start to the year, finishing their re-debut LCS split in fifth place. However, they turned things around in the Summer Split and claimed the LCS Championship title, becoming the last Western team standing in the quarter-finals of Worlds.
With his extensive experience since his debut in 2014, huhi will reunite with his former teammate Victor “FBI” Huang, an Australian botlaner, who also played for 100 Thieves. The two had a successful partnership during their time on the team from 2021 to 2022.
According to Sheep Esports’ report, NRG has considered putting other players on the market, although this seems unlikely given the team’s recent success. NRG initially joined the LCS in 2016 but dropped out after finishing ninth in the Summer Split and losing in the Promotion tournament to Echo Fox. However, their return to the LCS in 2023 has been remarkable, culminating in their championship win and strong performance at Worlds.
As the 2024 season approaches in January, NRG will continue to build on their success and identity with the addition of huhi. This move promises an exciting new chapter for both huhi and NRG as they aim to make their mark in the LCS.
