In preparation for the highly anticipated release of Marvel’s Spider-Man 2, the developers at Insomniac Games have revealed a unique approach they took to make the game’s setting of New York City feel alive. Jerry Berlongieri, the senior audio director, shared a video on October 18 showcasing actors engaging in casual, improvised conversations while surrounded by microphones. This allowed the team to capture natural background noise that truly reflects the bustling atmosphere of Spider-Man 2’s rendition of NYC.
Berlongieri explained that they recorded the sounds of distant voices using “walla” groups, which are groups of actors simulating background chatter. The video demonstrates the actors’ efforts, resulting in authentic and random city conversations that one would expect to hear in any major urban area around the world.
The excitement surrounding Spider-Man 2 is reaching new heights, and it’s incredibly impressive to witness the dedication of Insomniac Games as they go above and beyond for this game.
Spider-Man 2 will feature players assuming the roles of both Peter Parker and Miles Morales as they strive to lead normal lives in New York City. However, as is often the case, things take a turn for the worse. While the details of the story remain largely unknown, it’s clear that our protagonists will encounter some of their most notorious adversaries, including Kraven the Hunter, The Lizard, Venom, Sandman, and more.
