Iso, the newest duelist in VALORANT, brings a unique ability kit that has players speculating about its impact on the meta. While the full extent of Iso’s role is yet to be determined, one thing is clear: his ultimate ability provides a solution to one of the game’s most frustrating abilities.
Iso’s ultimate, Kill Contract, creates a column of energy that teleports him and the first enemy it touches to a one-vs-one arena. This eliminates the stress and reliance on abilities, forcing both players to rely solely on their weapons in a Warzone’s Gulag-style showdown. Notably, this also nullifies the active ultimates of the opponent, including powerful ones like Raze’s Showstopper, Sova’s Hunter’s Fury, or Jett’s Blade Storm.
This key aspect of Iso’s ultimate makes it an effective counter to Viper’s Pit, one of the game’s most overpowered and frustrating ultimates. Despite numerous nerfs, Viper’s Pit remains a formidable ability that can make executes or retakes on a site nearly impossible. Locating Viper within her Pit takes time and compromises the health of the attacking team.
However, a well-timed Iso ultimate can turn the tide in favor of his team by eliminating both Viper and her Pit. By engaging in a one-vs-one duel, Iso has the opportunity to swing the round back in his team’s favor, removing the threat of Viper’s Pit altogether.
Of course, there is always a risk involved in using Iso’s ultimate. Despite the slight advantage of having two barriers, Iso could still lose the duel. Moreover, when facing Viper in her Pit, there is an additional risk of missing the Kill Contract beam, as it does not cover the entire site or Pit. Additionally, if there are multiple enemies within Viper’s Pit, Iso may isolate a non-Viper opponent.
Nevertheless, when facing an active Viper’s Pit, the potential benefits of using Iso’s ultimate outweigh the risks. VALORANT players will soon discover the true impact of Iso’s abilities when he is introduced in Episode Seven, Act Three on October 31st.
