Los Angeles-based voice actor Kevin Afghani has announced that he will be taking over the iconic roles of Mario and Luigi in the upcoming game Super Mario Bros. Wonder. This news comes after Nintendo’s announcement that Charles Martinet, the original voice actor for Mario, would be stepping down from the role. Afghani, known for his previous work as Arnold in Genshin Impact, expressed his pride in being chosen for these beloved characters.
The confirmation of Afghani as the new voice of Mario and Luigi came after a recent datamine of the Mario Wonder demo, which listed his name among other voice actors. While some fans speculated that Mick Wingert would be the replacement, Afghani himself publicly confirmed his involvement in the game.
It is important to note that the leaked information also revealed potential recasting for other characters. Deanna Mustard may have been recast as Daisy, Jenny James voiced Bowser, and Samantha Kelly may have returned to voice Peach. However, these details have yet to be officially confirmed.
Charles Martinet, who has been the original voice of Mario since Super Mario 64, will now take on the role of a Mario Ambassador. Nintendo stated that he will continue to travel the world, spreading the joy of Mario and engaging with fans.
While it is now confirmed that Kevin Afghani will be voicing Mario and Luigi, we will have to wait for the official announcement of the full cast to see if the leaked information regarding other voice actors is accurate.
