Players of Baldur’s Gate 3 strongly believe that Lady Esther is one of the most despicable characters in the game, yet she is not hated enough for her heinous crimes. Her desire to raise a Githyanki child as a science experiment using a stolen Githyanki egg is seen as pure evil.
While there are other detestable characters in BG3, such as Bhaal, Minthara, and the Mindflayer Hivemind, players argue that Lady Esther deserves more disdain for her actions.
Lady Esther is an NPC who requests that you steal a Githyanki Egg from the Creche of the Rosymorn Monastery. This is the same location where you can obtain the Blood of Lathandar. Although there are benefits to giving her the egg, such as receiving gold, players have engaged in heated debates about whether or not to comply with her request due to her affiliation with pure evil.
Lady Esther believes that a Githyanki child can be conditioned to not be evil. However, a gnome at the Society of Brilliance reveals that if their scientific experiment fails, the child hatched from the egg will be subjected to torture and death. By handing over the egg to Lady Esther, players effectively condemn the child to a life of horror. Refusing to give her the egg results in her attacking the player.
If players are following an evil path in BG3, they may be more inclined to hand over the egg, justifying it with the phrase “money talks.” However, those with a strong moral compass will find this decision morally repugnant.
For players in need of gold, there is still a way to benefit financially without sacrificing the Githyanki egg. They can hand it over and then pickpocket it back, or alternatively, give Lady Esther an Owlbear egg, which satisfies her regardless. Killing Lady Esther also presents an opportunity to obtain valuable Monk items.
Despite this small advantage, Lady Esther remains one of the most evil NPCs in the world of Baldur’s Gate 3, as perceived by fans.
