Larian Studios Urges Baldur’s Gate 3 Players to Try These Underrated Multiclass Builds

Tim Price

Larian Studios developers are encouraging players of Baldur’s Gate 3 to experiment with five multiclass builds that they believe are often overlooked but can provide a truly enjoyable experience.

After analyzing player habits in Baldur’s Gate 3, the Larian devs discovered that certain multiclass builds, such as combining Sorcerer with Warlock or Paladin with Warlock, have been largely ignored by players. Today, they are urging players to give these builds a chance, as they can offer unique and rewarding gameplay opportunities.

Multiclassing is a special feature in BG3 that allows players to customize their characters by incorporating perks from another class, albeit with some disadvantages. Through their research, Larian found that players have predominantly favored three multiclass options: Rogue and Ranger, Paladin and Barbarian, and Barbarian and Fighter.

However, the developers argue that other multiclass combinations can be just as fulfilling, if not more so. They recommend trying out the following combinations in your next playthrough of BG3:

1. Paladin and Warlock
2. Rogue and Monk
3. Tempest Cleric and Storm Sorcerer
4. Druid and Barbarian
5. Sorcerer and Warlock

The Sorcerer and Warlock, as well as the Druid and Barbarian, multiclass builds are particularly noteworthy due to their enjoyable gameplay mechanics and synergistic abilities. These combinations work well together because they share similar aspects and complement each other effectively.

One intriguing suggestion from Larian is the Paladin and Warlock multiclass build. They believe that this combination, specifically a Warlock with the Pact of the Blade, can unlock the full potential of the already formidable and durable Paladin class.

By choosing this build, players can acquire the Deepened Pact feature at level five as a Warlock. This grants an additional attack every turn, which synergizes with the Paladin’s Extra Attacks. Normally, Extra Attacks do not stack, but this build allows players to benefit from both without compromising durability. As a result, players will have almost as many actions per turn as a Fighter.

While these multiclass builds may not be as popular among players, Larian’s recommendation suggests that they hold untapped potential, particularly the Paladin/Warlock combination.
