League of Legends’ Balance Lead, David “Phreak” Turley, has addressed player concerns regarding the upcoming rune nerfs in Patch 13.20. The changes, targeting runes like Dark Harvest and Electrocute, have left many players confused as these runes are considered relatively balanced in Season 13.
Phreak has explained the reasoning behind these rune changes, stating that Riot initially intended to switch the runes from gold scaling to level scaling to address snowballing effects. However, the decision was made to implement minor power nerfs instead to prevent cross-class rune poaching.
One of the major concerns raised by players is the potential 25% reduction in Electrocute’s damage in the late game, which contradicts the notion of a minor power nerf.
The goal of these power nerfs across multiple runes is to create balance and reduce snowballing. However, players are finding it difficult to see how these changes achieve that goal, especially when some of the best-performing runes received minimal nerfs while others were significantly impacted despite being labeled as “minor” targets.
Phreak acknowledges that Riot is not entirely certain how these changes will play out and assures players that they will closely monitor the situation once Patch 13.20 is released on Wednesday, October 11. Further adjustments may be made if necessary.
Please note that these changes are still subject to revision, but if they are implemented in the live League servers, it is likely that we will see a decrease in the use of Electrocute rune pages.
