League of Legends players are all too familiar with the toxic behavior that plagues the popular MOBA game, especially in ranked queues. Despite efforts by Riot Games to address this issue, players continue to find innovative ways to spread negativity. One professional player recently showcased their adaptability in finding new methods to insult their teammates.
Riot Games recently made significant changes to the ping system, as many players were using it to flame their teammates instead of using it for its intended purpose of communication. The main change implemented was that team-based pings, such as teammate spawn timers or item cooldowns, would only be visible to the player who activated them.
Previously, players would mock underperforming or mistake-prone teammates by spamming the “Champion – Alive” ping repeatedly, flooding the chat with reminders of their disappointing play. However, with the new changes, players have had to come up with alternative ways to insult their peers.
Eain “APA” Stearns, the starting mid laner for Team Liquid, shared one method he has been using to circumvent the new ping system changes. He posted a screenshot where he simply copied the “Champion – Alive” text from the chat and pasted it to remind his unfortunate teammate of their mistakes.
Despite Riot’s efforts to limit toxic behavior, it seems that players will always find a way to spread negativity, even if they can no longer quickly ping their teammates from the scoreboard. Some community members predicted that these changes would not completely eliminate toxic players and expressed disappointment that communication options were further reduced in solo queue.
