The latest DLC, The Teal Mask, for Pokémon Scarlet and Violet has introduced new content and brought back some familiar elements from previous games. However, a glitch in the game has unintentionally revived an old game-specific ability, albeit with no practical use in combat.
In this glitch, the legendary Pokémon Miraidon grows to an enormous size, matching the scale of Dynamaxed Pokémon from Sword and Shield. A video shared on Reddit showcases a player riding on Miraidon, but with their character floating beneath the belly of this colossal Pokémon. Fans across Paldea and Kitakami have been amused by this spectacle.
The video clip is only eight seconds long and captures the player engaging in the new minigame called Orge Oustin’. In this minigame, players ride on Miraidon (or Koraidon) and collect berries to stack at their home base while also protecting them from other Pokémon attempting to steal them. As the trainer rolls around collecting berries with their friends, an oversized Miraidon suddenly appears on the screen, surpassing any size seen before in the franchise.
This glitch, which causes massive sprite issues, has been a recurring problem in the Pokémon series. Fortunately, it doesn’t affect gameplay significantly and is mainly limited to visual oddities. When Pokémon Scarlet and Violet were initially released, they were plagued by glitches and performance problems, including a bug that made the player character taller.
Not only does this glitch bring back the issue of oversized Pokémon, but it also diminishes the quality of certain elements in Miraidon’s appearance. The enlarged size makes some details, like the “wheels,” appear pixelated and less defined. Instead of resembling a futuristic motorcycle dragon, Miraidon now resembles a Lifesaver candy.
Reddit users joined in on the fun, adding their own humorous comments. One comment cleverly references the minigame, suggesting that Greedents (Pokémon known for stealing berries) can’t steal berries if they become roadkill.
This glitch is just another addition to the list of bugs found in the DLC, which has faced criticism for its consistent performance issues, particularly frame-rate drops. While encountering an oversized Miraidon may not impact gameplay as severely as these performance problems, it’s refreshing to have a glitch that brings amusement to fans rather than frustration.
