The Aichi Open in Japan hosted the first major Magic: The Gathering Standard tournament since the release of Lost Caverns of Ixalan. With over 350 players competing, the event showcased a variety of meta decks in the top eight.
Deck | Pilot | Record |
---|---|---|
Bant Beanstalk | Uihyun Kim | 8-1 |
Bant Toxic | Takashi Fujii | 8-1 |
Azorius Midrange | Masashiro Kuroda | 8-1 |
Azorius Flash | Ken Yukuhiro | 8-1 |
The top four decks at the Aichi Open included Bant Beanstalk, Bant Toxic, Azorius Midrange, and Azorius Flash. Control decks, particularly Azorius Control, have been dominating the Standard meta. Bant Beanstalk, a Blue and White Control deck with a splash of Green, confirmed its strength by making it to the top four. Bant Toxic, a surprising inclusion, was a popular deck after the release of ONE but had fallen out of the competitive scene. Azorius Splash also made it to the top four, utilizing cards from Lost Caverns of Ixalan.
Other decks that performed well in the tournament were Boros Humans, Mono-White, Domain Ramp, Esper Midrange, and Five-Color Ramp. Azorius Control and Bant Beanstalk are considered the strongest decks in Standard, while Mono-White and Boros Humans represent the Aggro archetype. Bant Toxic has made a comeback, and players should also keep an eye on Esper Midrange and Domain Ramp decks.
