Do you have a friend who always goes AFK at the beginning of a League of Legends game? Well, it turns out that they are not alone. In fact, the majority of players in the League community are guilty of this behavior.
According to Hextexchlab, a fan-made site that analyzes data from League using Riot Games API, over 98% of players on the EUW servers are AFK at the start of their games. This was determined by looking at the moment players purchased their starting items.
In Patch 13.18 on EUW, only 1.75% of games had all players ready to play when the game started. It takes an average of 36 seconds for all players to be ready in half of the games, and even at minions spawn, there is still a player AFK in 20% of games.
While this may not seem like a big deal, going AFK early in the game can have significant consequences. It prevents players from participating in invades or defending against them, as they are unsure if they will be outnumbered. Additionally, being AFK means missing out on crucial experience and gold, which can impact the outcome of the game later on.
For example, let’s consider a scenario where Zed is playing against Talon in the midlane. This matchup is known for its volatility, and it is expected that both champions will trade kills. However, if Zed is AFK and misses out on the gold and experience from the first three minions, they will lose the level two power spike. This puts them at a disadvantage, allowing Talon to potentially all-in and snowball their lead.
The solution to this issue is simple: players should avoid going AFK at the beginning of their games. It is clear that this behavior has a significant impact on the outcome of the game and can put their team at a disadvantage. Taking a few extra seconds to grab a drink or attend to other matters between queues can make a world of difference.
