Mass Account Ban Targets Cheaters in Counter-Strike 2

Xavier Ward

Counter-Strike 2, the recently released game, has already faced a major issue with cheating. However, Valve has taken action by implementing a mass account ban on October 2nd to target hackers. This ban wave has resulted in numerous users being VAC banned, as confirmed by third-party sources. The detection of one of the most popular cheats in CS2 is a significant step towards combating cheating in the game.

Cheating has been a persistent problem in CS2, similar to its predecessor CS:GO and other online multiplayer games. The swift response from Valve in banning cheaters is reassuring for players, especially since CS2 does not yet have its own version of Overwatch, the community cheating review system in CS:GO. Valve’s VACnet AI seems to be effectively identifying these players without the need for community review. However, there have been instances of wrongful bans due to the new system.

During the CS2 beta phase, players reported an increase in cheaters in the Premier mode, leading to concerns about the game’s future. CS:GO has faced its fair share of cheating problems over the years. The recent mass bans indicate that Valve may be addressing this issue with a robust anti-cheat system. It is still too early to determine the effectiveness of this system since CS2 was just launched.

FaZe Clan’s ropz has been vocal about the cheating issue, suggesting that Valve should explore more invasive anti-cheat measures similar to Riot Games’ Vanguard software for VALORANT. The goal is to completely eradicate cheating from the game.

The response from the CS2 player community has been positive, as they are pleased to see cheaters being punished and the game experience being protected for everyone.

If you haven’t tried CS2 yet, the game is available for download on Steam without any restrictions.
